The arms were officially granted on April 29, 1980.

The oak branch symbolizes the old oak trees on the market square and the wooded area. The telegraph pole refers to station no. 57 on the Berlin-Koblenz opto-mechanical telegraph line that existed here between 1832 and 1852.
