ZEULENRODA (ZR)

State : Thüringen
Incorporated into : 1994 Greiz

Wappen von Zeulenroda (kreis)/Arms (crest) of Zeulenroda (kreis)
Official blazon
German

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 4, 1992.

The golden lion is derived from the arms of the Lords of Reuss, who ruled the largest part of the district for many centuries. A small part of the district belonged to one of the Duchies of Sachsen, hence the simplified version of the arms of Sachsen in the fourth quarter. The third quarter shows three wavy bars, representing the three hydro-electric dams in the district. The second quarter shows the statue of Themis, derived from the statue on the tower of the Zeulenroda city hall in the colours of Thüringen at the time.
