Wappen von Dornum/Arms (crest) of Dornum

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1961.

The arms show a bear, which is derived from the arms of the Attena family. Before 1400 there were 3 castles in Dornum, the Wester-, Oster and Norderburg. All were destroyed in 1514. The Attena family, who owned the Norderburg, were the most powerful family in the area.

See also Dornumergrode, Dornumersiel and Esens.
