German | In Blau auf goldenem Stuhl sitzend ein golden gekleideter und gekrönter Fürst mit erhobener Rechte, in der Linken ein Zepter
Origin/meaningBefore the granting of city rights in 1375 Greding belonged to Eichstätt since 1311. Before 1311 it was part of a large estate of the German Kings. The seals thus showed in the 14th century the German King sitting on a throne. Since 1430 the figure has turned into a woman, which may have had a canting origin (Gretel or girl). In 1490 she is shown as St. Margaret, holding a palm leaf. Around 1720 she was said to be the wife of Emperor Heinrich VII, or even as the wife of the local major. The present arms show again a female figure and are based on the 15th century seal.
