Rendsburg received city rights in 1250, and the first seal dates probably from the same time, but it is not known until 1334. The second, 14<sup>th</sup> century, seal showed the same image; the Reinholdsburg castle, built on the border between the counties Schleswig and Holstein. German In Silber über abwechselnd silbernen und blauen Wellen eine rote, freistehende Ziegelburg mit Zinnenmauer, drei mit blauen Spitzdächern versehenen Zinnentürmen, davon der mittlere etwas höher und breiter, und mit offenem Tor, darin das holsteinische Wappen (in Rot das silberne Nesselblatt).
