BROTTERODE

State : Thüringen
District (Kreis) : Schmalkalden-Meiningen
Incorporated into : 2011 Brotterode-Trusetal

Wappen von Brotterode/Arms (crest) of Brotterode
Official blazon
German In Grün zwei gekreuzte goldene Berghämmer, belegt mit einem goldenen Meißel.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on Jannuary 16, 1950.

The arms are based on the old seal of the village (known from 172)6, but the symbols are probably older. The miner's tools and chisel refer to the importance of mining and the freedom of the city (Bergfreiheit) since medieval times. The freedom was for example confirmed in 1537 by Count Philipp of Hessen.
