NIEDERGLADBACH

State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Rheingau-Taunus Kreis (until 1977 Untertaunuskreis)
Incorporated into : 1972 Schlangenbad

Wappen von Niedergladbach/Arms (crest) of Niedergladbach
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the old seal of the village dating from the 18th century. The seal shows the local patron saint, St. Aegidius, holding a crosier and protecting a deer. The legend states thet a deer, wounded by an arrow, was looking for protection with the saint.

The above (simplified) arms and colours were proposed in 1956, but I have no idea whether the arms were actually granted.
