Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 10, 1976.
The arms combine the historical arms of the Lords of Geroldseck (a red bar in gold) and the Lords of Dautenstein (red eagle in gold). Both Schönberg and Seelbach were part of the Estate of Geroldseck for many centuries. The Lords of Dautenstein had many possessions in Seelbach and Wittelbach until the 15th century.
The village received already town rights in 1455, but there are no historical seals or arms known.
In the 19th century the town used a seal with only some wavy bends, symbol for the Bach (stream) part of the name. In the late 19th century a fern (or willow) was added, but its origin is not known. This composition was adopted as arms in the early 20th century (see image below).
