STAMMBACH
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Hof (until 1973 Münchberg)
Additions : 1938 Fleisnitz; 1972 Förstenreuth, Straas (partly); 1978 Gundlitz
German |
Gespalten; vorne geviert von Silber und Schwarz; hinten in Silber auf einem geneigten, mit einem schräglinken silbernen Wellenbalken belegten grünen Hang stehend zwei grüne Laubbäume. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The oldest seal of the town dates from 1562 and it already shows the above shield with an angel as supporter. All later seals and images have shown the same composition, but the angel was removed in the late 19th century. The trees were sometimes wrongly shown as pine trees, and from 1819-1836 the black quarters were shown as blue (the colours of Bayern).
The quartered half shows the arms of the Hohenzollern family, to which the town belonged for several centuries. The left half is canting, with two trees (Stamme=tree trunk) and a wavy bend (Bach=stream, brook).
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
