FÜRSTENBERG

State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Waldeck-Frankenberg (until 1972 Waldeck)
Incorporated into: 1971 Lichtenfels (Hessen)

Wappen von Fürstenberg (Lichtenfels)/Arms (crest) of Fürstenberg (Lichtenfels)
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

Fürstenberg is first mentioned as a city in 1254. The oldest seal dates from the same time and shows the Abbot of Corvey, as the city at the time was ruled by the Corvey Abbey. When the city became part of Waldeck in the 15th century, the seals showed arms with the patron saint of Corvey, St. Justinius with the flame, on top of a star. The star is taken from the arms of Waldeck. The arms remained unchanged until the 19th century, when the saint was replaced by the local patron saint, St. John and the Holy Lamb.

Siegel von Fürstenberg (Lichtenfels)

The municipal stamp shown in 1892
Wappen von Fürstenberg (Lichtenfels)/Coat of arms (crest) of Fürstenberg (Lichtenfels)

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
