Origin/meaning
The first arms were granted in 1950 and new arms were granted on October 30, 1971.
The old arms show three wheat ears, as a symbol for the importance of breweries in the local economical development. The wheel in the lower half is the symbol of the local patron saint, St. Catherine.
The small cross in the middle of the new arms represents the State of Köln, to which the city belonged. The chain around the cross represents the four former municipalities that are now tightly bound together.
