BERGISCH NEUKIRCHEN

State: Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis): Leverkusen (until 1974 Rhein-Wupper Kreis)
Incorporated into: 1975 Leverkusen

Wappen von Bergisch Neukirchen/Arms (crest) of Bergisch Neukirchen
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1929 and were not based on old seals or arms, as such were not available.

The mountain (Berg) and church (Kirche) are canting symbols. The lion is the lion of the counts of Berg, who first acquired the area of the city in the 12th century.

In the early 20th century the arms below were shown in the Kaffee Hag albums. These arms show the same composition, but with the lion in a small shield.
