The arms were officially granted on April 5, 2005.

The lower half is canting, Tech-land means 'pond-land' and the reeds refer to the lakes in the municipality. The three reeds also refer to the three villages and former municipalities.  
Unter schwarzen Schildhaupt, belegt mit drei goldenen Dornenfäden, in Gold drei schwarze, aus einem blauen Wellenschildfuß wachsende Rohrkolben mit grünen Stängeln und Blättern.

The chief shows three electricity wires, for the lignite mining in the municipality, which is used to produce electricity. The black colour refers to the lignite.
