The arms were granted on December 24, 1845 by King Ludwig I, and were based on the 18<sup>th</sup> century seal of the town. As the colours were not clearly described, different combination were used in the 19<sup>th</sup> century. The present colours date from the late 19<sup>th</sup> century. The angel is the archangel St. Michael, patron saint of the village.
