The aspen leaf is a canting element; the name is derived from Abolderstetin, or place of the aspen. The shield division is derived from the arms of the city and bishops of [[Halberstadt]], to which the village belonged for a long time. The colours are those of the Dukes of Braunschweig as the village was part of the Duchy of Braunschweig.
