The arms were officially granted on April 21, 1961.

The arms show symbols of the main activities at the time, a plough for agriculture and miner's tools for the mining in the area. The cross is the symbol of the [[Köln (State)|State of Köln]], to which the village historically belonged. The silver and blue colours are those of the former County of Arnsberg, which later became part of the State of Köln.
