Origin/meaning

Borgholz received city rights in the early 14th century. The oldest seal dates from 1446 and shows the Bishop of Paderborn in a gate. The city wat the time belonged to the State of Paderborn. In the 17th century the fleur-de-lys appears on the seals. The fleur-de-lys was the symbol used by the State of Paderbron. Initially the arms showed three lilies.
