SCHMIDMÜHLEN
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Schwandorf (until 1973 Burglengenfeld)
Official blazon
Gespalten von Silber und Rot; vorne ein aufrechter schwarzer Schmiedehammer, hinten ein halbes Mühlrad am Spalt.
Origin/meaning
The arms first appear on the seal of the local council in 1311. The colours are known since 1489, but many different variations in colour are known during the centuries.
The hammer and the wheel are canting symbols. The hammer, Schmiedehammer, is canting for the first part of the name, as well as a symbol for the iron mining in the area. The wheel (Mühlrad) is canting for the second half of the name.
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
