ATHENSTEDT
State : Sachsen-Anhalt
District (Kreis) : Harz (until 2007 Halberstadt)
Verwaltungsgemeinschaft : Harzvorland-Huy (until 2010)
Incorporated into : 2010 Halberstadt
Official blazon
Von Rot und Silber geviert, Feld 1 eine goldene Eule, Feld 2 und 3 ein grünes Buchenblatt, Feld 4 eine gebundene goldene Getreidegarbe.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on ??-??-2002.
The owl in the first quarter is a canting symbol of the Goddess Athene and thus a canting symbol for the name Athenstedt. The beech leaves are a symbol for the forests in the municipality, whereas the garb stands for agriculture. The colours are those of the Halberstadt diocese and principality, to which the village belonged until 1815.
