Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 11, 2011.
The arms show the church of the large Jerichow Abbey. The wavy base refers to the Elbe river, which has been of great importance for the development of the city.
The two wheatears refer to the former municipalities that merged in 2010, which have an agricultural character.
The previous arms were never officially described and many variations existed. The arms show the local patron saint, St. George, slaying the dragon. The saint also held a small shield, showing the arms of the Jerichow Abbey.
