State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Trier-Saarburg (until 1969 Trier)
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandsgemeinde Trier-Land
Official blazon

Origin/meaning
Welschbillig received city rights in 1291, and the first seal probably was made at the same time. The seal showed the local castle of the Bishops of Trier with the arms of the diocese and state of Trier above the castle. The composition was later placed in a shield and used as arms. The arms basically never changed since, but the size and shape of the castle has changed considerably according to the fashion of the time. It has also increased in size, looking nowadays more like a walled city than a single castle.
