BAD HINDELANG
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Oberallgäu (until 1973 Sonthofen)
Additions : 1972 Unterjoch
Official blazon
Geteilt von Schwarz und Blau, aufgelegt eine bewurzelte silberne Tanne.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on August 31, 1872 by King Ludwig II.
The tree, covered with snow, should symbolise the many forests and the importance of forestry. The divided shield was supposed to show the colours of Augsburg and Bayern, as the town originally belonged to the State of Augsburg and since 1803 to Bayern. The State of Augsburg, however, used silver and red as colours, and it is not known why black was chosen as the colour for the upper half. The blue is derived from the arms of Bayern.
