Dillingen was part of the area of Siersburg (now in France) and the arms thus are a combination of the arms of the Amt Siersburg (an eagle over a city wall) and the arms of the Lords of Siersburg (shown in the gate). The Lords of Siersburg ruled the area from the early 14<sup>th</sup> century until 1558.
