The arms were officially granted on March 22, 1983.
The key is the symbol of St. Peter, the patron saint of the church in the village of Horst in the municipality. The green colour symbolises the agricultural character of the area. The base shows a wall-anchor, symbol for the old farms in the municipality and especially for the village of Borstel, as its name is derived from Hofstelle (place of a farm).
