The oldest seal of the town dates from 1262 and shows the bishop of Paderborn with scepter and book. The town at the time belonged to the State of Paderborn. A second seal shows a castle with on a plate the head of St. John Baptist. A third seal shows the head of the patron saint under the eagle of Arnsberg. This composition remained in use until 1912 when the head was placed in a chief. | |||
