HOCHSTÄDTEN
State: Hessen
District (Kreis): Bergstrasse
Incorporated into: 1971 Bensheim
German | In Rot ein silberner Dreiberg, belegt mit einem schräg gekreuzten blauen Hammer und Schlegel, überhöht von drei sternförmig gelegten silbernen Pfeilen. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The oldest seal of the village is known from the 16th century shows the local patron saint, St. Sebastian, bound and with a number of arrows in his body. The same composition appears in 17th century seals. A strange image also appears in the 17th century, where St. Sebastian is not shown as a saint, but as a wild savage.
In 1956 arms were proposed for the village, but instead of the saint only three crossed arrows were used. This proposal was never adopted by the municipality. The proposal in 1956:
In 2005 the village council wanted to have proper arms for the village and the above arms were proposed and adopted. St. Sebastian was, like in the 1956 proposal, replaced by the arrows as his symbol. In addition in the lower half symbols for the former mining in the area were added.
The colours are those of Hessen.
