Origin/meaning

As far as I know these arms were never officially granted, only proposed in 1956. The arms are used in the village though by the local football club and fire brigade.

Historically Dortelweil was a possession of the city of Frankfurt am Main and in 1572 the local council applied to the city for an own seal for the village, similar to the to other villages in the area. The request was approved and a seal was made with the eagle of the arms of Frankfurt and a symbol for the village, an orb with the letter d. This seal has been in use at least until the end of the 19th century.

As no colours were known for the seal, besides for the eagle, the above proposal from 1956 included colours taken from the arms of the Friedberg-Hessen district.
