Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 10, 1951.

Grafschaft developed around the abbey of the same name. The upper half is based on the arms of the Counts of Dassel, who ruled the area for the abbey. The silver balls in the arms of the counts have been replaced for diamonds in the shape of a cross to symbolise the abbey/ The lower half the arms of the Lords of Grafschaft. Both arms also appeared in the arms of the different abbots of the abbey.

Literature: Belke et al., 1986
