The three-topped mountain in the base is a canting element, -hövel, or hill, taken from the previous arms. The entrance of a mine and the tools in the hill symbolise the importance of mining in the area since the 16<sup>th</sup> century. The hazel branch in the upper part of the arms is derived from the arms of Amt Hasselinghausen.
