PHILIPPSTHAL (WERRA)
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Hersfeld-Rotenburg (until 1972 Hersfeld)
Additions : 1972 Gethsemane, Harnrode, Heimboldshausen, Röhrigshof, Unterneurode
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1936.
The old name of the town was Kreuzberg (cross-mountain), which is shown in the arms as a cross rising from a mountain. The cross is also a symbol for the former Benedictan convent in the village. The small shield in the base shows the arms of Hessen, as the village was a possession of the Counts of Hessen. Kreuzberg was given to Philipp of Hessen by his brother Karl in 1686. The village was later renamed after Philipp.
