Origin/meaning

Markdorf received city rights around 1250 from the Lords of Markdorf. The city also adopted the arms of the family, and the arms appeared already on the seal of the city from 1350. Later images all showed the same symbol, the number of blades, however, has changed often during the centuries. The colours are known since the 17th century.
