The arms date from around 1523 when the town rights were granted. The oldest seal already shows the arms. The quartered shield is the arms of the Markgraves of Nürnberg from the Hohenzollern dynasty. The origin of the tree is not known. All later seals and arms used the same composition. Only in the early 19th century the black and white of Hohenzollern was replaced by the blue and white of Bayern, as the State of Nürnberg became part of Bayern in the early 19th century.

The arms date from around 1523 when the town rights were granted. The oldest seal already shows the arms. The quartered shield is the arms of the Margraves of Nürnberg from the Hohenzollern dynasty. The origin of the tree is not known. All later seals and arms used the same composition. Only in the early 19th century the black and white of Hohenzollern was replaced by the blue and white of Bayern, as the State of Nürnberg became part of Bayern in the early 19th century.
