Origin/meaning

The first arms of the city were officially granted on September 7, 1883 and again on October 12, 1965.

The arms showed the local bridge over the Main river, which was built in 1836-1846. On the bridge was shown a crowned L and 1846. The bridge was built on the orders of King Ludwig I. Above the bridge a star was placed, as a symbol of 'luck for the future for the city now that the bridge is built' (according to the grant).

The silver and red colours are those of the Diocese of Würzburg as well as the Franken region. Blue and silver are the colours of Bayern.

In 1930 the crowned L and the date were removed. These new arms were used, but not formally granted until 1965.

Hupp showed in the 1920s the old arms from 1883:

Siegel von Marktheidenfeld

The municipal stamp shown in 1892
Wappen von Marktheidenfeld/Coat of arms (crest) of Marktheidenfeld

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925
