Origin/meaning
Bad Homburg was the seat of the Lords of Eppstein and received city rights between 1320 and 1337. The oldest remaining seals, dating from the 15th century, show a cross, but it is not clear what the cross was made of. Later seals show the present arms. The colours are known since 1621, as they can be seen in the castle Rotenburg. The arms were officially granted in 1903, but have thus been in use since the 15th century. The origin of the tools is not known, it has been said that they may be canting in the local dialect.
The prefix Bad was granted after the development of the spa since 1834.
