The arms were granted on March 21, 1979 and show in the lower part the cross of Speyer. Elchesheim was ruled by the bishops of Speyer from the 12th-14<sup>th</sup> century, whereas Illingen was ruled until 1803 by the bishops. The upper part symbolises the river Rhine and the two fish are the two former municipalities. The colours of the upper part are the colours of [[Baden (State)|Baden]], as Elchesheim was part of Baden after the 14<sup>th</sup> century.
