Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 3, 1897.

The colours of the three fields are taken from the three areas to which the municipality historically belonged; silver and green from the arms of the Prussian Rhineprovince, silver and black for Prussia, and red and silver for the County of Berg (in silver a red lion, armed blue).

The three images represent the three (original) villages in 1897 : Eich (canting=oak), Schwanen (canting=swans) and Wermelskirchen (Kirche=church).
