Origin/meaning

The arms are based on a late 14th century seal and show the local castle, built by the Counts of Hirschberg and destroyed in the 19th century. The village grew around the castle and in 1387 became a town. All later seals and images show the same composition, but the shape of the castle and rocks differs widely. The present colours are the colours of the Monastery of Eichstätt, who acquired the town in 1440 and ruled it until 1806.
