Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 20, 1964.
The lion in the upper half is taken from the arms of the Rheingrafen (Counts of the Rhein), an important dynasty in medieval times, to whom the whole area belonged for many centuries. The cross in the lower half is the symbol of the Order of Saint John, who, for many centuries, owned the local parish (and appointed the priest) as well as a large estate in the municipality.
