HATTEN
State: Niedersachsen
District (Kreis): Oldenburg
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1946.
The arms show two trees as a symbol for the many woods in the area. Between the trees the old arms of the Counts of Oldenburg are shown. Hatten was built on a crossroads and thus of strategic importance. Already before 1200 two castles were built in the area. In 1258 the Counts of Oldenburg defeated the Bishops of Paderborn in the village. In the 17th century Count Anton of Oldenburg rebuilt one of the old castles as a hunting lodge. The importance of the Counts of Oldenburg is thus symbolised in the arms.
The rose is also taken from the arms of the Counts of Oldenburg-Wildeshausen and at the same time symbolises the moors around the town.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
