KÖSSLARN (Kößlarn)

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Passau (until 1972 Griesbach im Rottal)
Additions: 1971 Hubreith, Thanham

Wappen von Kösslarn/Arms (crest) of Kösslarn
Official blazon
German In Rot der Rumpf eines golden bewehrten schwarzen Ebers.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1488 by Duke George the Rich of Bayern-Landshut and again on May 16, 1972.

The boar's head is most likely derived from the arms of the Eberspeck family (Eber=boar). In 1467 Hans Eberspeck, vicar of Passau, bought the land on which the local church was built. All seals and later images have shown the arms as above, with the exception of some 19th century images, where the field was shown in gold.
