FRESENBURG
State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Emsland (until 1978 Aschendorf-Hümmling)
Samtgemeinde: Samtgemeinde Lathen
German | In Gold über goldenem Wellenschildfluss aus einer roten Zinnenmauer wachsend eine Linde mit drei starken Ästen, begleitet von zwei roten Zinnentürmen. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on
The arms show a castle with two towers; these represent the former castles in Fresenburg and Düthe. The linden tree, a symbol of justice, symbolises the medieval court in Düthe. The three branches symbolise the three villages of Düthe, Fredenburg and Melstrup .
The base symbolises that the Fresenburg castle was surrounded by a moat. It also refers to the Ems river and the Dortmund-Ems canal.
The colours are those of the State of Münster, to which the area belonged from 1252-1803.
