ECKERNFÖRDE (ECK)

State:Schleswig-Holstein
Incorporated into: 1970 Rendsburg-Eckernförde

Wappen von Eckernförde (kreis)/Arms (crest) of Eckernförde (kreis)
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 24, 1946.

The squirrel is a canting symbol (from Ekerken, the local name for Eichhorn or squirrel) and is taken from the arms of the city of Eckernförde. The waves symbolise the Baltic Sea and the many lakes in the district. The colours are derived from the arms of Schleswig.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
