Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 29, 1982.

Todtenweis was a center of royal property in the northern Lechrain region. The place is mentioned for the first time in 1033 in connection with a donation from the Empress Kunigunde to the Augsburg Convent of St. Afra, which later became the Imperial Monastery of St. Ulrich and Afra. Todtenweis remained in its possession until 1803. Also since the 11th century, the monastery ruled the parish of Todtenweis with the St. Ulrichs parish church.

The municipal arms therefore show the cross of St. Ulrich as a reference to the St. Ulrich church and the monastery. As a reminder of the close relationship with the monastery of St. Ulrich and Afra, the arms also show a cross with a bar, the historical symbol of the monastery. The royal crown indicates the Empress Kunigunde. The colors silver and blue are reminiscent of the rule of the Wittelsbach family.
