Origin/meaning
The Duchy Arenberg was a small county located in the present-day German state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, bordering the Netherlands. It existed as a Lordship from 117-1509, as a (Princely)-County from 1509-1645 and as a Duchy from 1648-1810, when it was mediatised to the Kingdom of Hannover and the Kingdom of Prussia. Capital was the city of Aremberg.
The arms show the arms of the original Counts of Arenberg, who ruled the area until 1280.
