District (Kreis):Emsland (until 1978 Aschendorf-Hümmling)
Incorporated into: 1973 Papenburg

Wappen von Aschendorf/Arms (crest) of Aschendorf
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1952, at the same time as the city rights were granted. The city belonged from 1252-1803 to the Bishops of Münster, the colours of the field are thus the colours of Münster. The tower is the local medieval tower, built as a fortress and incorporated into the local church. The wavy bar is the Ems river. Prior to 1952 the town did not use any arms.
