The village of Nussloch was sold by the Lords of Lichtenau in 1259 to Count Ludwig II of the Pfalz. The village remained part of the Pfalz until 1802. The oldest known seal dates from the late 15<sup>th</sup> century and already shows the hazel (Nuss=nut) tree and the shield of the Wittelsbach family, Counts of the Pfalz.
