Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 4, 1992.
Near Belzig a castle was built around 997, which was replaced before 1139 by a castle of the Margraves of Brandenburg. Since 1298 the castle and surrounding village were part of the Duchy of Sachsen-Wittenberg. Belzig was mentioned as a city in 1269. The arms are based on the oldest seal, known from 1338, but made after 1298, as it shows on the castle the arms of Saxony (Sachsen).
Hupp showed the arms in the 1920s with the dome in a different colour, see below.
