Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1971.

Barntrup received city rights in the first half of the 14^th century. The oldest seal is known since 1370 and shows the star of the Counts of Sternberg, surrounded by eight roses of Lippe. During the 16^th century the star and rose were combined and in the early 17^th century they were flipped horizontally.
