The arms show the lion of the arms of the Lords of Echterdingen, dating from the 13<sup>th</sup> century. The lion never appeared on seals or older arms. The town used several symbols as village signs in the 18th and 19<sup>th</sup> century; most often a kind of wheel, used during the wheat harvest, or an orb.
