Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 6, 1986.

The upper part refers to the oldest known Slavic settlement in the municipality. The earthen ring wall of this settlement can still be seen today and hence a ring is chosen as a symbol for the settlement. The ring is broken into four parts, for the four villages in the municipality; Freudenholm, Scharstorf, Schellhorn and Sophienhof.

The horn symbolises Schellhorn, founded in 1286 as Scadehorne, or small horn. The silver bend refers to the main road that runs through the municipality. The colours are those of Schleswig-Holstein.
